Description (ca. 1921):
Invented by Marie Calabrese, this head-shaped instrument combines chic steam technology with the traditional mechanisms of a music box to create eerie melodies delivered through a human-like whistle.

The instrument relies on a candle housed in the shoulders which heats up a small water resevoir that produces steam. The steam is then forced up through an intricate system of pipes and valves that ultimately passes through a hand-cranked cylinder which transfers the steam through another series of tuned pipes, creating a whistled melody.
