Description (ca. 1921):
This Catholic cemetery was built in the 1870's, and was the final resting place for many of Rochester's high profile religious members. However, Mount Hope Cemetery caused Holy Sepulcher to become less popular among the people of Rochester because it was well-known among those without major religious connections. One famous person buried here who was not connected with any religious parties was Francis Tumuelty, who was a suspect in the infamous "Jack the Ripper" killings. Though few non-religious people knew of its existence, Holy Sepulcher Cemetery is still respected even during the twenties as a traditional site for final rest.
