Description (ca. 1921):
The Genesee Brewery was started in 1878, along the Genesee River and is one of the oldest continually operating breweries in the United States. When Prohibition started in 1920, they legally moved their production to non-alcoholic malt beverages and dairy products[1] , however covertly their brewing business still runs. Situated along the river, it gives the brewery an easy route to sell their alcohol to taverns and speakeasies. Also during Prohibition, the owner of Genesee Brewery, Louis A. Whele, created a baking business in Buffalo.
