Description (ca. 1921): The crystal radio is one of the simplest models of radio available. They are promoted for boys to make so they can learn how to build things. They have a very weak signal and are often interrupted by static. They require no battery, only a long antenna to pick up the sound from the radio station. The radios are not powerful enough to power loudspeakers, so headphones have to be used. They are a popular radio because they are inexpensive and easily made at home.
